Actuality Systems Announces First European Sale of Perspecta™ 3D System
April 23, 2003 - Unique 3D System Will Aid Researchers at ENEA, Ente per le Nuove Tecnologie, l'Energia e l'Ambiente, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies
BURLINGTON, Mass. - April 23, 2003 - Actuality Systems, Inc., the leader in spatial 3D visualization technology, announced the first international sale of its Perspecta TM 3D System to ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and the Environment. The Perspecta 3D System will be used as part of the center's applied research and development work in 3D imaging of scientific data.
"We are very pleased to have ENEA using Perspecta, this is an important milestone for us," said Cameron Lewis, chief executive officer of Actuailty Systems. "ENEA is one of the most important research organizations in the world. Their adoption of Perspecta gives us strong exposure in the EEC and a good platform for additional foreign sales in Europe and the Far East. It says a great deal about the uniqueness and potential of the Perspecta 3D System to have ENEA scientists include it in their leading-edge R&D work."
The Perspecta 3D System is a 360-degree spatial display, powered by Perspecta platform and application software. The system enables users to render high-resolution spatial images that can be viewed from any angle as the user moves around the display. The display itself illuminates a record 100 million volume pixels, or "voxels," using Actuality's patented technologies, within a transparent Lexan dome.
ENEA Ranks Among Europe's Premier Research Organizations
ENEA is a state-sponsored research organization established by the Italian government to expand the nation's technical horizons in several key areas: energy for the future, protection of the planet, health and human safety, environmental change, future technologies, and advanced technologies such as plasma fusion and high-performance modeling and computing. ENEA is headquartered in Rome and operates 11 research centers as well as a number of regional offices across Italy.
Typical applications for the Perspecta 3D System include: nuclear medical imaging, radiation treatment planning, surgical planning for doctors visualizing angiogram data or to more precisely locate tumors on an x-ray, CAT scan, or mammogram; air-traffic control; 3D game development; and security, visualizing the contents of freight or passenger luggage.
About Actuality Systems
Actuality Systems, Inc. develops, produces, sells, and licenses the Perspecta TM 3D System, a combination of hardware and software that permits 360-degree visualization, simulation, and collaboration. The system enables users to create high-resolution spatial 3D images that can be viewed from any angle around the 360-degree dome - without the use of special goggles. Founded in 1997 in Cambridge, the firm has received venture funding and now operates from offices near Boston. The Perspecta 3D System is designed for use in a range of applications including medical imaging, aerospace and defense, and oil and gas exploration.
